Synopsis
Fifty years ago, teenage mother Antonia vanished from a town in southern Spain in the middle of the night. Now, somewhat to the north, Carmen, a shy casting director, is scouting for “authentic” people. During her search, she meets Antonia, whose impulsive energy threatens to disrupt her solitary world.
In her debut feature, Laura Ferrés portrays people from peripheral parts of Spain who don’t typically appear on screen. Far more than mere social realism, La imatge permanent makes deft use of distancing and static shots to reveal the weight of the past on ordinary lives.
