9.30 to 11 am. Masterclass: Designing Your Audience

Audience Design is a strategic collaboration tool for filmmakers who wish to explore the potential audience for their projects and strike up an early dialogue with their audience.

This approach seeks to involve the audience in the creative process of a film from its initial stages. It is based on the idea that engaging in dialogue with audiences (B2B and B2C) can positively influence the conception, production and distribution of a film if done strategically and in advance, resulting in a more relevant and enduring lifespan for the film.

The goal is to think in terms of the audience from a practical and methodical perspective that helps generate a space for reflection, dialogue and planning from an early development phase through a story-based approach and multiple angles.

11.30 am to 12.45 pm. Panel: The Other Side of the Dossier

A film dossier is a crucial tool in the development and financing process. The quality of the dossier and how it is received by readers can make the difference between a project’s success and failure.

In this practical discussion, we will set out how people with different profiles and objectives sit down to read a dossier to assess the projects we present. A panel of professional experts from different project selection committees will provide guidelines and hints on the best way to present film projects, both to labs and for grants and subsidies.

This session also aims to guide professionals who are part of these project selection committees.

Moderated by Miquel Escudero.

12.45 to 2 pm. Panel: (Distribution) Contract Battle

What kinds of contracts does a production department sign with distributors and sales agents? Why does each company have its own clauses? What sets them apart? What has led them to make certain decisions?

In this "contract battle" the aim is to read through these contracts to analyse the needs of a sales contract, the whys and wherefores and the variations that distributors and sales agents handle in their day-to-day business. A one-to-one stage discussion to explain contractual clauses and serve as the starting point to understand how, when and why to approach these figures in the film industry.
