In Praise of Nothing

Parallel

Synopsis

A satirical, offbeat parable about Nothing, in which Nothing, tired of being misunderstood, runs away from home and begins to reveal his thoughts on pretty much everything, including life and death, love and politics. Humorous and self-reflexive, as well as challenging us to reconsider the significance of life, In Praise of Nothing was researched through 20,000 pages of the most eclectic bibliography, shot over eight years by 62 cinematographers in 70 countries, narrated in verse by Iggy Pop and scored by cabaret grandmasters Pascal Comelade and The Tiger Lillies.

Biography and Films

Boris Mitić  (Leskovac, Serbia, 1977) studied communication and after years of working for international media organisations he found refuge in what he calls inverted-vérité, an offbeat, personal, text-driven approach to storytelling where documentary images suggest different layers of reality to we see on screen. He has made four documentaries that have been screened at numerous festivals and art biennials: Lyjepa Dyana (2003), Unmik Titanik (2004), Dovidjenja, kako se? (2009) and In Praise of Nothing (2017), which closed l'Alternativa 2018. For some years now he has been working on And Now What and Then What?, a love letter to his children.
