PAUL BUSH MASTERCLASS

Paul Bush Masterclass

To complement the Paul Bush retrospective in this year's Festival, Paul Bush will present his work as an independent filmmaker over the past twenty years and explain the ideas behind his films, as well as the techniques and economic forces that go into them. This section will be illustrated by films, interviews, work-in-progress documentaries, screenplays and pilot episodes.

He will talk about how to reconcile the differences between art and experimental filmmaking, teaching and film production, advertising and the avant-garde to make personal, challenging films in the first decade of the 21st century.

Paul Bush (London, 1956) studied fine art at Goldsmiths College and started his filmmaking career in 1978, after his experience at the London Filmmakers Co-op. Between 1981 and 1993, he taught film direction and set up a 16mm film workshop in South London. He has given numerous conferences and tutored on several art and film courses throughout the world, including the Media Academy in Cologne, the National Film Board of Canada, the Netherlands Institute of Animation Films, CalArts in California, the Experimental Film Centre in Turin, HGK Lucerne in Switzerland, and the Royal College of Arts and the National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom.

In collaboration with the British Council.
