MASTERCLASS ON SUBTITLING AND AUDIO DESCRIPTION

Subtitling and Audio Description Workshop

The masterclass will introduce students to subtitling for the hard of hearing and audio-description for the visually impaired. It will be given by lecturers and experts from the Spanish Centre for Subtitling and Audio Description (CESyA).

The Masterclass will present the theoretical content in order to achieve the following aims:

  1. Offer students an overall vision of accessibility techniques in audiovisual media.
  2. Explain the style guides and formats for subtitling for the hard of hearing.
  3. Use different systems to produce accessibility services in audiovisual media.

Ángel García Crespo (Madrid, 1963) has a PhD in industrial engineering from the Polytechnic University in Madrid and is currently a lecturer at Carlos III University in Madrid. He is also assistant director of curricular planning at the Higher Polytechnic, director of the Group for Integrating Advanced Systems, and head of the Area for Social Awareness Raising at the Spanish Centre for Subtitling and Audio Description (CESyA). He focuses on activities for primary children and new creators.

Over the course of his career, he has played an active role in projects for the EU and the Spanish Centre for Scientific and Technological Research, amongst others. He is author of over a hundred papers for conferences and national and international journals, and is the secretary of the Pedro Juan de Lastanosa Institute for Technological Development and Innovation Promotion.
