In 2007 Martin Scorsese selected Touki Bouki to be a part of the World Cinema Project whose mission is to preserve and restore marginalized and infrequently screened films from regions generally ill equipped to preserve their own cinema history. Touki Bouki is one of the six films selected by Scorsese, a cinematic revelation, depicting a culture not often seen by outsiders on-screen.
