“Anim’est is the only international animation film festival in Romania. Its main host is the city of Bucharest. Founded in 2006, Anim’est has grown rapidly to be the most important animation film-related event in Romania. We started enthusiastically in 2006: in the first edition we screened over 250 short films, 10 feature films and more than 3,500 spectators attended the event. This year we gathered an audience of 20,000, beating our own record of 2010 and screened around 320 short and feature films, remaining Bucharest’s most loved film festival.»
From the second edition, Anim’est became a competitive festival and year by year it joined together animators, film critics, famous names. It meant more and more workshops, presentations and round tables, children’s screenings, live performances, a great number of international guests, plus the most famous screening of each edition, the long awaited Creepy Animation Night (inaugurated in 2009).
Since Romania lacks a real animation department at university, our festival is among the very few events of the genre. We have the precious support of the Center of Cinematography and the Ministry of Culture and we feel we are filling a gap, nurturing a passion, raising awareness, cultivating and improving good taste, promoting local cinema around the world and making things possible again!
The Romanian competition category brings around one hour of short films on the big screen of Anim’est, every year. With very few exceptions, they are all one-person films, so you’ll discover the same name appears as the scriptwriter, sound designer, animator and director, independent filmmakers working on their own and by themselves.
Apart from bringing good tutors to Bucharest to teach animation workshops during the festival, in the last two years, Anim’est has worked on getting young Romanian animators work together, so the future looks a lot brighter!
Marius Pandele made White Noise after attending one of the first animation workshops organized during Anim’est, Anton Octavian has been lately specializing in animated music video for foreign bands, Roxana Benţu was part of the team of animators working on Crulic – the Romanian feature film that won the Cristal for the Best Feature Film in Annecy 2012 and is now in Feature Films Official Section at l’Alternativa 2012, Veronica Solomon has been studying animation at the prestigious HFF Potsdam-Babelsberg, while The Scream by Sebastian Cosor has been in the international film festival circuit and has won a few prizes.”
A parte de una selección de 8 cortos de animación rumanos, proyectaremos también 3 films ganadores de las últimas ediciones de Anim’est.
¡Os esperamos el viernes 23 a las 20h15 en el Hall del CCCB para un gran momento de animación!
