Una trabaja, la otra no
One Works, the Other Doesn't
Maider Fernández Iriarte
Lizzie Borden’s meticulous immersive gaze portrays sex work without passing any moral judgement. Inspired by the experiences of the prostitutes she met while filming Born in Flames, Working Girls reveals the routines of a day in the life of a photographer who works part-time in a Manhattan brothel. By looking at prostitution through the lens of labour, Borden delivers an empathetic, humanising and often humorous portrait of the women for whom this work is just another day at the office. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival in 1987.
