Diario de verano

Synopsis

Diario de verano is an exploration of neighbourhood flora in Tkaronto. Abstract movement and the physical, compositional properties of foraged materials strengthen our community and kinship to the land and one other. Gathering rituals, stop-motion animation and phytograms were used to create layers of ourselves intertwined through our latinx identities.

Cristal Buemi (Puerto Rico) and Francisca Duran (Chile) are a multidisciplinary experimental filmmaking duo working under the name anivides. Following analogue and digital frame-by-frame approaches, their films emphasise the idea of how structures bear the weight of environments and experiences and explore how they relate to trauma, healing and transformation. Their work features collages of human and plant forms approached from a diasporic, immigrant, BIPOC, femme, queer and intergenerational perspective.
