Theo Anthony has emerged one of the most lucid and innovative voices in contemporary American documentary making. His films, interweaving journalistic investigation and visual essay, question mechanisms of power, technology and the construction of images. He deftly combines rigorous analysis and experimental poetics to create cinematic devices to probe reality and expose its fissures.
At l’Alternativa 2021 we programmed All Light, Everywhere, and now we have invited him back to present both his feature films: a reprise of All Light, Everywhere alongside his debut, Rat Film. He will be joined by his partner, fellow filmmaker Zia Anger, who will present My First Film, a radical self-reflexive work on the vulnerability of the creative process.
Anthony will also share his creative process and artistic sources of inspiration in a masterclass.
