Once again we are joined in orbit by a select group of _Satellites, acclaimed Spanish filmmakers whose paths have often crossed with l’Alternativa and who splash down at the festival to give a talk or masterclass and curate a programme of films linked to their creative universe.

Lois Patiño, one of the most acclaimed voices of contemporary Spanish cinema with an international career spanning the Berlinale, Locarno and Rotterdam, has been a regular presence at l’Alternativa ever since his early days as a filmmaker: first with the short films Montaña en sombra (2012) and Noite sem distância (2015) and more recently with Samsara (2023) a work turned a screening into a collective meditation.

For his director’s pick, he has chosen to strike up a dialogue between Pedro Pinho’s A Fábrica de Nada and his own latest film, Ariel. Two works that turn settings into laboratories of transformation and imagine new ways of being and living.

In addition, he will be giving a masterclass in which he will share his creative process and his vision of cinema as a transformative experience the festival.

In addition to raising the profile of Spanish filmmakers crafting alternative visions to mainstream cinema through their own original ways of working, the _Satellites section also provides unique opportunities for direct, creative exchange between filmgoers and filmmakers.
