Lizzie Borden
A key figure in American independent cinema, Lizzie Borden took the film scene of the 1970s and 1980s by storm with a radical feminist body of work that pioneered queer representation. Author of films that have since become cult classics, she has won international acclaim from generations of filmmakers for her tenacious determination to challenge power structures and to represent ideals — feminism, labour, sexuality, revolution — disparaged by mainstream cinema.
In collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, we have curated a focus on her work comprising Regrouping (1976), Born in Flames (1983) and Working Girls (1986).
She will also be giving an online masterclass exploring how cinema can bring to the fore bodies and political struggles rendered invisible by dominant narratives.
