Polyphonic bodies

Polyphonic bodies are bodies that resonate, mutate, transform, resist and endure. This year l’Alternativa Hall has taken on this mantle with multiple, sometimes overlapping, branches to mine a rich vein of corporeal possibilities.

Here, multiple voices, gazes and gestures chime to create a multilayered dialogue that broadens the possibilities of encounter and creation. This space sets out to question systems of cinematic representation and aesthetic norms by seeking out original, complex filmmaking languages that reconfigure the universe of the senses.

Polyphonic bodies come in four states:

  • Expanded Bodies, which experiment with what we consider to be visible, audible or sayable through live performances that expand the scope of beams of light;
  • Bodies of One’s Own, which prize the public, private and personal rooms found in collective manifestations, different perspectives and revealing hints at something else;
  • Other Bodies, Other Lives, where the notion of otherness can draw sharp lines between a world we think of as ours and another we see as foreign, lines that can then become vast dehumanising gulfs devoid of feeling and capable of unleashing the greatest of atrocities,
  • and Participatory Bodies, open to all through partnerships and calls for entries, a space for sharing perspectives on and off screen.
