The Filmed Word
For last year’s call for short short films, we invited you to reflect on and subvert the relationship between the visual and sonic worlds, to recover lost and forgotten sounds that might shape the idea of a polyphonic body. The result was a landscape of voices, orality and musicality that filled the Hall at l’Alternativa.
Many of the pieces you submitted explored the universe of emotions through your personal sound archive. With much the same approach in mind, this time we’d like you to rummage around your own archive or someone else’s in search of paper treasures.
Now’s the time to dig out those documents, letters and half-completed to-do lists and look at them afresh—as images not just words! Explore what a word might have to offer to the eye, or, to put it more poetically, see where the idea of the “filmed word” might take you.
Your short short films—no more than one minute long—should explore the word as an archive of emotions. Like an archaeologist, dig deep to celebrate the range of sensations provoked by the written word, while conjuring up images, shapes, space and rhythm. Video letters, collages of found archives, visual lists: all possible kinds of correspondence are welcome!
The shortlisted works will be screened in a special session where we will announce the winners chosen by both the audience and the l’Alternativa Hall jury. You have two ways to vote: on our YouTube channel and in person in the Hall at the CCCB.
The winning short shorts will receive a festival multipass and a one-year subscription to MyAirBridge’s Pro plan, along with other mystery prizes.
