It’s is Not a Story... Until It Is

Where do films come from? This is one of the commonest questions filmmakers ask themselves when trying to trace their creative journey.

The germ of an idea for a film can come from a fleeting image, a memory, an intuition or an unanswered or unanswerable question. What begins as something personal ultimately becomes an experience that seeks to resonate with others. And all of this through the medium of film.

Filmmaker Guillermo Benet will help us explore not only the final result (finished films) but also the hidden fabric that stiches them together: the notes, references, and scattered thoughts that often remain on the fringes of the process. By examining them as a whole, we can see clues emerge that speak of an identity in motion: who we have been, who we are and who we can become through creation.

Guillermo Benet (Madrid, 1984) graduated in the screenwriting programme at ECAM, where he is now a professor of screenwriting and directing. In 2013 he founded the production company Vermut Films alongside Rafa Alberola. In recent years he has gained recognition on both the national and international stage and has participated in festivals such as Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Festival de Málaga, Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla and Festival Internacional de Gijón. Among his most notable productions are Pueblo, Septiembre, Les vimos reír y creímos que era de felicidad, Los inocentes and Arenal. He has written and directed the short films Kisses, Les vimos reír y creímos que era de felicidad and Está amaneciendo.
