Forging Ties with Young People

For a number of years, l’Alternativa, Cinema en curs and Moving Cinema have been working in tandem to forge closer ties between the festival and young people. Thanks to Cinema en curs and Moving Cinema—and hours of hard work by dedicated teaching staff—we have been able to set up projects to encourage young people to discover and analyse a range of different styles of filmmaking and then write texts and give public presentations about the films they have watched.

Young Programmers

This year’s Joves Programadors Moving Cinema are twenty 2nd-year sixth-formers from Institut Doctor Puigvert. After watching a selection of films, they have picked A los libros y a las mujeres canto, which they will present together with the film’s director, María Elorza.

The group of Joves Programadors Moving Cinema at l’Alternativa 2022 is made up of Maria de los Angeles Coo, Isamar Embalo, Samaí Gallegos, Miguel Girón, Maria Isabel Ivanova, Tian Ci Jiang, Nora Jiménez, Najwa Martínez, Àlex Méndez, Jairo Montes, Ariadna Morey, Aleix Oliver, Aina Paris, Neshua Puig, Íria Suárez, Lexy Velasquez, Laia Vera, Dunia Villanova i Joel Viñas, accompanied by one of their teachers, Carol Vega.

This initiative forms part of the Europe-wide Moving Cinema project, led by A Bao A Qu.

Shorts for Sixth-Formers

As part of our Film School activities, Shorts for Sixth-Formers will give students the opportunity to watch two films exploring unique, personal universes and using filmmaking’s expressive power to the full: Cuerdas, by Estibaliz Urresola Salaguren, and Caballo de espuma, by Juanjo Rueda. After the screening, students will have the opportunity to engage with Juanjo Rueda to discuss his film  and learn more about his creative processes.

With filmmaker Juanjo Rueda.

Young Spectators

In partnership with A Bao A Qu, within the framework of the Moving Cinema initiative, we shall be coaxing and cajoling secondary students and sixth-formers into attending some of the onsite screenings at this year's festival.
