Past Continuous

Filmmaker Luis Lopez Carrasco will be giving a pre-screening masterclass to tie in with the presentation of his latest feature, El año del descubrimiento, at l'Alternativa.

Jean Breschand has said that a film can "put scattered pieces back together". Viewed in this way, filmmaking can be a means of foraging in the past before delicately trying to thread together new stories, pick up broken discourses and reimagine vanished images. To a certain extent, memory is always a work in progress.

In this masterclass, Luis López Carrasco will explore the creative process behind El año del descubrimiento (2020) and discuss how some of his previous films took shape as a means of piecing together hidden fragments of the past to put them back in play in the present.
