Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall fell on the night of the 9–10 November 1989. It was key historical moment, a symbol of the end of the Cold War and the start of a new world order.

The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is on the opening weekend of the 26th edition of l’Alternativa. In collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, we are marking this event by programming a selection of documentaries capturing a range of social, political and cultural realities before and after reunification. These films also offer a unique insight into Berlin, a mythical city at the centre of a remarkable period of history.

Featuring films by Thomas Heise, Klaus Maeck, Jörg A. Hoppe, Heiko Lange, Bartek Konopka, Marilyn Levine, Ross McElwee, Hubertus Siegert and Uli M Schueppel.

The films will be screened at the Filmoteca de Catalunya. On Tuesday 12 November we will be joined by filmmaker Thomas Heise, who will open the section and present his film Material.
