Synopsis
La ciénaga makes evocative use of space, language and sound to portray an extended Argentinian family caught between stagnation and survival. Lucrecia Martel’s remarkably accomplished debut (the first film in her Salta trilogy) offers a visceral insight into class, family, sexuality and society by weaving a complex narrative out of human relationships. “Any solidarity has been smashed into smithereens, leaving people to fend for themselves.
