Synopsis

In fifteen chapters shot in locations including Moscow, New York and Istanbul, Counting merges city symphony, diary film and personal/political essay to create a vivid portrait of contemporary life. Counting observes street life, light and time, noting not only surveillance and overdevelopment but also resistance and its phantoms as manifested in music, animals and everyday magic.

Bio/Filmo

Jem Cohen (1962) is a New York–based filmmaker whose feature films include Museum Hours, screened at l'AlternativaChain and Instrument. His films form part of the collections at the MoMA and the Whitney Museum and have been broadcast by PBS, Arte and the Sundance Channel.
