L'Alternativa Activities

Roundtable: 20 Years of Alternatives

This year, l'Alternativa is 20. Over the last two decades it has worked tirelessly to give us a taste of something different from the usual multiplex fare. Now is a good time, then, to both look back and think about the future. A selection of films by successful up-and-coming filmmakers reveals how far we've come, and a roundtable with directors, producers, programmers and critics with a keen eye for independent filmmaking will explore the increasingly clear path ahead. The immediate future appears to be starkly polarised between razzle-dazzle blockbusters with franchised products and the other alternatives flourishing at cinematheques, festivals and museums.
