Roundtable Istanbul: Off-camera Tales

This debate focuses on Istanbul, one of the leading global cities.

How can we document the layers of a constantly changing metropolis? How can we legitimise the wide range of different identities and ways of life in this megacity that often remain invisible?

Starting with the documentaries by Imre Azem and Melisa Önel, we'll talk about the different factors affecting stories that explore different forms of conflict in the city, as well as the strategies currently followed by a young generation of filmmakers who use film as a tool to analyse and think about their society.

This roundtable links to the section Translations: Independent Documentary Filmmaking in Turkey, which is screening seven films exemplifying these young filmmakers' rich, diverse visions.

In collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey, and Casa del Mediterráneo.
