An ordinary village in northern China, where a group of kids kill time on the last day of the winter holiday. Aimless adolescents, a melancholic grandfather and a child who, when asked what he wants to be when he's older, replies "an orphan", are the protagonists in this strange tragicomic fiction, where absurdity and black humour reveal the universal pains of growing up.

Li Hongqi (Shandong Province, 1976) graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. His publications include the poetry anthology Lin Chuang Jing Yan (Cure) and the novel Shi Bu Wan De Jin (Smells Like Teen Spirit). His first feature, Hao duo da mi (So Much Rice, 2005), won the NETPAC award at Locarno and his next, Huangjin zhou (Routine Holiday, 2008), was screened at the London Film Festival.
