Using long takes and the detail of repeated gestures and pauses, this film tells the story of a young removal man, Gabino, who lives with his mother in Mexico City. The film is constructed around everyday moments in the protagonist's life - meal times, car journeys, removals - and eloquently raises questions about the nature of existence, and the absurdities and tragedies of contemporary life. Simple, serene, realistic and cinematographic.

Nicolás Pereda (Mexico City, 1982) took a Master's degree in fine arts at York University in Toronto, Canada. His first feature film, ¿Dónde están sus historias? (2007), screened at l'Alternativa 2007. His short documentary Entrevista con la tierra (2008) is also screening at the festival this year. Perpetuum Mobile is his third feature film.
