13th Independent Film Festival of Barcelona , L'Alternativa 2006 (10-18 November 2006)

The 13th Independent Film Festival of Barcelona, L'Alternativa 2006, will be held between 10 and 18 November 2006 in seven venues throughout the city. The Festival will once again be a meeting place for both filmgoers (30,000 spectators in 2005) and film professionals (200 accredited guests in 2005). The Festival will screen 400 films (Official Sections, Parallel Sections and the Hall Screen), in addition to a number of Parallel Activities: masterclasses (Screenwriting, Soundtrack Composing, Postproduction), roundtables, a photo exhibition and a dramatised reading.

L'Alternativa has invited a number of filmmakers to the Festival this year, including Theo Angelopoulos, Humberto Solás, Eyal Sivan and Patrick Doyle, along with other film professionals such as Lars Gass and Sergio Benvenuto.

The Festival will award cash prizes to the winning films competing in the Official Sections (Feature Film, Documentary, Short Film and Animation). From the 1,800 entries received this year, 65 films from around the world will participate in the Official Sections.

The Parallel Sections are dedicated to Marguerite Duras, Theo Angelopoulos, Eyal Sivan, Humberto Solás, the Oberhausen Festival, the film El Perro Andaluz and Film Schools of the World.

L'Alternativa will also screen a number of new films in the Hall Screen section; which includes programmes specially curated by the Festival, as well as guest programmes, live music and presentations.
