Fondamentalement attachée à la ville de Sète, où elle a été réfugiée pendant la guerre avec sa mère et ses quatre frères et sœurs, Agnès Varda garde de ces années-là des souvenirs heureux de vacances et d’insouciance. Après avoir quitté Sète pour s’installer à Paris et y passer le baccalauréat, elle y revient fidèlement pendant 10 années, de juin à octobre, à l’occasion des vacances scolaires. Elle y rencontre alors des pêcheurs, des amis qui lui donnent l’idée de réaliser en 1954 son premier film La Pointe Courte.
C’est donc très naturellement que plus de 50 ans plus tard elle a exposée au CRAC Languedoc Roussillon en 2009 et a répondu en cette fin 2011 à l’invitation du Musée Paul Valéry afin de présenter, Y’a pas que la mer, une exposition qui dévoile une facette moins connue de l’univers de la cinéaste, photographe et plasticienne.

En el RIDM de Montréal (Rencontres Internacional du Cinema Documentaire), Territoire perdu de Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd acaba de recibir el Gran Prix del Mejor Film Internacional y El lugar más pequeño de Tatiana Huerzo la Mención especial. En Francia, Girimunho de Helvecio Marins Jr. y Clarissa Campolina acaba de ganar la Mención especial del jurado y el Premio del jurado joven en el Festival des Trois Continents de Nantes.

La setena edició dels Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère reuneix, com en edicions anteriors, festivals internacionals i cineastes europeus per proposar set sessions de films diferents i necessaris. Els films presentats a Cerbère tenen, a part d’això, al menys dos punts comuns, la singularitat de la seva mirada i, precisament, el fet de no assemblar-se. No hi són per complaure’s, sinò per sorpendre’s; no hi son per un creuer, sinò per una aventura.
Un monde pour soi (Yann Sinic) i O’er the Land (Deborah Stratman) es projectaran als Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère dins d’un programa proposat per l’Alternativa.

Regard Independant es una asociación creada en Niza en 1995 para fomentar y apoyar la creación en los campos emergentes del cine y el vídeo. Bajo el liderazgo de su equipo, formado por apasionados del séptimo arte, Regard Independant encuentra y reúne a jóvenes creadores, proyectan películas atípicas e invitan a sus directores y ofrecen talleres.
Realizado por primera vez en 1998, los Encuentros de Cine y Video en Niza son la cita anual de los que quieren experimentar un primer contacto con el público. Son también una oportunidad para cruzarse con otras artes como la música o el teatro, y por supuesto una ventana única sobre las múltiples maneras de vivir el cine y hacer películas.

Felicidades a Jean-Claude Taki por su premio en Documenta Madrid por Sotchi 255, su segundo largometraje, realizado íntegramente con un teléfono móvil, fruto de toda una trayectoria experimentando con nuevas formas de narrar y filmar. Sus films se han visto en ediciones anteriores de l’Alternativa, y en 2007 ganó el premio al mejor corto con Le cahier froid.

Carta blanca para l’Alternativa en el Institut Jean Vigo de Perpignan, con la proyección de 7 cortometrajes de la pasada edición del festival. Rendez-vous à Stella Plage (Shalimar Preuss), Rita (Fabio Grassadonia & Antonio Piazza), Twelve Sketches on the Impossibility of Being Still (Magali Charrier), Cotonov Vanished (Andreas Fontana), L’art délicat de la matraque (Jean-Gabriel Périot), Enterprisse (Mauricio Quiroga R.) y Bu Sahilde (Merve Kayan & Zeynep Dadakque) serán proyectados el próximo 1 de febrero. El programa ofrece múltiples historias, experimentos visuales, investigaciones, observaciones y poesía, y forma parte de nuestro proyecto de crear canales para la difusión de films del festival a lo largo del año.

Paris # 1 (Oliver Laxe) and Bagatela (Jorge Caballero) will be screening at the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère in a programme proposed by l’Alternativa. The film meeting, now in it’s sixth year, invites an international array of film programmers to each suggest 2 films for the 3 day event. This year guest programmers are Jean-Pierre Rehm (FIDMarseille), Jacky Evrard (Pantin & Paris Tout Court), Jean-Pierre Bellay (Cinémaginaire), Patrick Viret (l’Association des Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère), Tess Renaudo, (l’Alternativa), filmmmaker Julien Devaux and Pavel Petchenkine (Festival Flahertiana). The Belvédère du Rayon Vert, an art déco hotel built in 1928 with its own cinema, is host to the screenings, Q & As, and the winning films will be projected on the last night in Port Bou, just across the border.

Jean-Claude Taki first came to l’Alternativa in 2004. It was to present his debut feature film, Aurora / Number 9, a story of brief encounters in which fiction and reality blend in a continuous stream of solitude. Following the projection at l’Alternativa the film screened in Medellín as part of a series organised by the Festival and Pulpmovies to exhibit independent film in Colombia. 2 years later Taki returned to l’Alternativa, but this time with a very different project. An 8-minute film La martienne, suggestive and poetic, shot on a mobile phone. He told me that this change of direction, duration and format was a natural and necessary reaction for someone who wanted to create and experiment continuously and not be hindered by budgets that took years to fall into place. In 2007 he was back at l’Alternativa with Le cahier froid (again shot on a mobile phone but this time 26-minutes long). The film won the Short film Award at the Festival, as well as the main prize at the Pocket Film Festival in Paris. In 2008 his next film, Si tu ignores le nom des choses, was also screened in competition. Now Taki has recently finished his second feature film (his first mobile feature) Sotchi 255, which explores the disappearance of a woman after a storm in Sochi, the Russian city on the Black Sea. The film will premiere at FIDMarseille in July, but if you’re in Paris in June you can catch a special screening at the Forum des Images, as well as a full retropsective of his films (19th June), and his new short Greek Salad, at the Festival Côté Court (13th June).

Galician filmmaker Oliver Laxe, whose Paris # 1 was in the short film competition at l’Alternativa last year, presents his debut feature film Todos vós sodes capitáns.
Michelangelo Frammartino, who screened his first feature film Il dono in competition at l’Alternativa 2004, presents his second film Le Quattro volte.
Katell Quillevéré, winner of short film prize at l’Alternativa in 2005 with A bras le corp, screens her debut feature film Un Poison violent.
Olivier Masset-Depasse, whose short film Dans l’ombre screened at l’Alternativa in 2004, screens his second feature film Illégal.
Un Certain Regard and International Competition
Ágnes Kocsis, whose first film Friss levegö won a prize at l’Alternativa 2006, screens her second feature Pál Adrienn in Un Certain Regard.
Radu Muntean, director of The Paper will be Blue screened at l’Alternativa last year, presents his new film Tuesday, After Christmas in Un Certain Regard.
Cristi Puiu, director of The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu also screened at l’Alternativa last year, presents his new film Aurora in Un Certain Regard.
Sergei Loznitsa, whose films Portrait (2002), Factory (2004) and Artel (2006) have all screened at previous editions of l’Alternativa, shows his latest film My Joy in the main competition at Cannes.

Confrontation 46, the annual festival organised by the Institut Jean Vigo in Perpignan has programmed a series of screenings around the theme of film and art. Pedro Costa will be in town to present his new film Ne change rien, and Peter Greenaway will present Rembrandt’s j’accuse, Nine Classic Paintings Revisited and Nightwatching, as well as giving a free conference on Friday 9th April.

A few days ago at EntreVues de Belfort…
3 films screened at the last edition of l’Alternativa picked up awards at the Festival International du Film de Belfort. Politist, Adjectiv, awarded the Feature Film Prize at l’Alternativa, won Best Film, Gabino Rodriguez won Best Actor Award for his role in Perpetuum Mobile and Destination Finale was awarded Best Documentary Short. Félicitacions!
