«As both a documentarian and the director of two feature films, Sergei Loznitsa has explored various facets of one fundamental subject: the way the human race records its own history…. With Austerlitz, Loznitsa may have produced his finest film yet»

«Exhibiting a simplicity and intellectual acuity that is far too rare in the field of documentary, Loznitsa has created a film whose cumulative impact will stay with you long after you watch it, tinting and shading the way that you experience a multitude of previously ordinary cultural practices.» Michael Sicinski, Cinema Scope (Read on)

“Loznitsa describes the film as an effort to reckon with an existential crisis he felt on his first visit to Buchenwald…. ‘I realized, in front of the crematorium, that I was myself like a tourist,’ he said…. ‘It was like in a Kafka novel. I can’t be in this place,’ Loznitsa continued. ‘And my question is: How can we keep memory? Is it possible in general to share this memory?’” New York Times (Read on)
