La cineasta y poeta norte americana Abigail Child, cuyos films B/Side y The Future is Behind You participaron en ediciones anteriores de l’Alternativa, es protagonista de una muestra en el Reina Sofia en Madrid. Sus films (muy recomendables) exploran el espacio público a través de la memoria y la historia, y los límites de las relaciones entre sonido e imagen.

2 filmmakers whose previous films have screened at l’Alternativa picked up FIPRESCI awards at Cannes! In the Un Certain Regard section of the festival Ágnes Kocsis for Pál Adrienn and in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs Oliver Laxe for his debut feature Todos vós sodes capitáns.
Filmmaker Albert Serra (Honor de cavalleria & El cant dels ocells) and producer Montse Triola, make a debut incursion into theatre, as part of the series Radicals 10. Serra’s Pulgasari, inspired by real events, is a poetic portrait of the dictatorial regime of North Korea, the world of cinema, love, etc., based on the kidnapping of Korean producer Shin Sang-ok and of the actress Choi Eun-hee.

Stephen Irwin’s The Black Dog’s Progress, screened in competition at l’Alternativa last year, won two British Animation Awards (BAA) last week. The film won Best Short Film and Best Sound Design. The BAA covers all aspects of the UK animation scene, from student work to commercials, children’s entertainment, short and experimental art films, music videos and new technologies.
