As one of this year’s Satellites, Mauro Herce talks to Samuel Alarcón about his films, his creative universe, his influences and his methodology, in his dual role as a filmmaker and cinematographer.
At l'Alternativa, we have programmed a good number of films that Herce has worked on over the years, both his own feature Dead Slow Ahead and his short Lonely Rivers and films by other directors, including Mimosas, by Oliver Laxe; El mar nos mira de lejos and Aqueronte, by Manuel Muñoz Rivas; Slimane, by José Ángel Alayón; and Samsara, by Lois Patiño.

Mauro Herce
Mauro Herce (Barcelona, 1976) studied engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and fine arts at the University of Barcelona. After graduating, he enrolled at the EICTV in Cuba and then at the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière in Paris. He has worked as a director of photography and screenwriter on more than twenty films.

Samuel Alarcón launched and presented El cine que viene on Radio Nacional de España, a groundbreaking programme that opened many ears to original, innovative Spanish filmmaking. In 2018 he was at l’Alternativa in person to present his feature Oscuro y Lucientes.
