Albert Serra (Banyoles, 1975) is doing us the honour of letting us glimpse his—in his own words—chaotic way of working. Ever since his very first feature, Honor de cavalleria (2006), his method has been shaped by his trademark use of nonprofessional actors, dashing improvisation and a prodigious accumulation of footage to tussle with in the cutting room. His work has won gushing plaudits from critics worldwide, not only at major festivals such as Cannes and Locarno, but also at cinemas and art centres across the planet.

This activity ties in with the parallel section Satellites: Albert Serra, in which he has programmed his mesmerising short Cubalibre (2014) in dialogue with Ulrich Seidl’s early feature Mit Verlust ist zu rechnen (1992).
