Synopsis
It's all rather simple, really: twice-widowed Anna Feodorovna Belova lives with her feckless brother Mikhail. While she runs the farm, he drinks, writes poetry and philosophises about life, sometimes joined by their other two brothers, Vasily and Sergei. A stark yet tender portrait of the true Russian soul: happiness with a harsh edge.
Bio/Filmo
Viktor Kossakovsky (Leningrad, 1961) is an outstanding excellent example of a documentary maker who trained at the Leningrad Documentary Films Studio and studied screenwriting and directing at the Moscow Film School. His distinctive films—including ¡Vivan las Antipodas! (2011), Aquarela (2018) and Gunda (2020)—range widely in subject matter but always explore the interplay between reality and poetic moments. He has picked up over 100 awards for his work worldwide. In many of his films, he is screenwriter, director, cinematographer and editor all-in-one, as well as teaching and mentoring documentary film students.
