Festival rules

1

Films may participate in the following competitive sections:

  • Feature Film (fiction, nonfiction, animation, experimental)
  • Short Film (fiction, nonfiction, animation, experimental) with a maximum running time of 40 minutes

There is no entry fee.

The Festival awards cash prizes in each of the sections:

  • €3,000 Feature Film Prize
  • €1,000 Short Film Prize

Films may also be selected to participate in the non-competitive Panorama and l'Alternativa Hall sections.

Selected films will be screened exclusively at festival venues during the week of the Festival. The Festival will ask rightsholders for permission to screen their film under any other circumstances.

Filmmakers may submit a maximum of 2 films. Distributors, production companies and film schools may submit a maximum of 6 films.

All films submitted for selection must have been completed after 1 January 2016.

Entry form
Completed online entry form for each film submitted. We do not accept entry forms sent by email.

Screener
There are 2 ways to share a screener with us:

Online

Include a web link (and corresponding password if necessary) when you complete the entry form to stream the film on a video-sharing website (e.g. Vimeo). We do not accept links to download films from FTP servers, or accept files sent via file-sharing services (e.g. RapidShare, WeTransfer, Hightail, etc.).

DVD

Send a copy of the film on DVD with the registration number given when you entered your film online, together with the film title and filmmaker's name.

Submission deadline: 1st July 2017 (postmarked)

All submitted films will be viewed by a selection committee.

Preview DVDs will not be returned.

Participants will cover the cost of sending the screening copy of selected films to Barcelona. L'Alternativa will ensure its safe return after the Festival.

The Festival has insurance to cover any damage to or loss of screening copies or any other physical material submitted by participants.

No selected films will be screened without authorisation from the rightsholder.

Participation in l'Alternativa implies acceptance of the above regulations. The Festival will settle all non-specified cases.

L'Alternativa has been awarded AIC 2017 certification.
