Expanded Performance: On the Ephemeral

L'Alternativa Activities - Expanded Performance: On the Ephemeral

Following on from the programme of activities on hands-on filmmaking and the performative aspects of cinema we launched two years ago, this year we have teamed up with Crater-Lab to put on an expanded cinema performance and a workshop run by Colombian artist Viviana Díaz.

On the Ephemeral

This audiovisual performance in three acts delves into the inner space of childhood by evoking memories through a play of light and sounds. The performers will use a range of projectors—including analogue, acetate and slide projectors, alongside others made out of magnifying glasses and mirrors—and other small motorised devices to produce moving images through beams of light, in a sensorial experience that conjures up a forgotten childhood.

Audiovisual performer

Viviana Díaz studied visual arts at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and electronic art aesthetics at the Universidad Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires. Her investigative art work reflects her interest in obsolete technologies. She has given workshops in Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Canada. She was a member of the Trinchera Ensamble improvisation group and currently forms part of the Luz y Fuerza Cine Expandido collective. She lives and works in Mexico City.

Sound performer

Ana María Estrada Zúñiga (Santiago de Chile, 1980) studied visual arts at the Universidad de Chile and sound art at the Universitat de Barcelona. She has taken part in exhibitions and festivals at museums, galleries and public spaces in Santiago de Chile, Valparaíso, Concepción, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Barcelona and Valencia. She lives and works in Barcelona.
