Paula
Eugenio Canevari
Synopsis
Paula is a young nanny for a wealthy family who own soya plantations deep in Buenos Aires province. When she discovers she is pregnant, she has to improvise a desperate and silent cry for help. “Canevari’s debut has echoes of Lucrecia Martel’s first feature, La ciénaga. Not because it’s a recycled copy or tribute, but because both films undertake the same merciless—yet never overblown—dissection of middle-class hypocrisy and double standards.” —Diego Batlle
Bio/Filmo
Eugenio Canevari studied image and sound at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and film directing at Bande à Part Film School in Barcelona. He wrote the short Gorila Baila, which won an award at Sitges Film Festival and has been screened at many festivals. Paula is his directorial debut.
