L'Alternativa 2016

Introduction

This year the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l'Alternativa, reaches its 23rd edition. For 23 years we’ve been sharing eye-opening films and offering Barcelona filmgoers and professionals a unique opportunity to discover and enjoy thought-provoking screenings and activities whose watchwords are diversity, creativity, freedom and commitment.

There are two competition sections in l’Alternativa Official: Feature Films and Short Films. L’Alternativa Parallel pays tribute to Maurice Pialat and Les Films du Worso and also includes Expanded Cinema, the Panorama section of Spanish films produced well off the beaten track and the Small Experiments children’s sessions. In addition, l’Alternativa Hall offers a rich, varied programme of free screenings in the CCCB Hall; this year the spotlight is on the effect of mass tourism in cities.

Spaces for education and debate can be found in l’Alternativa Activities, including creative workshops and roundtables and Film Schools activities. And l’Alternativa Professionals is running a professional symposium, advice sessions for film projects and networking spaces.
