Synopsis

A cause of considerable controversy on its release, J.L. Godard's examination of modern spiritual life parallels the story of the Virgin Mary. Set in 1980s France, Joseph is a taxi driver and Mary plays on a women's basketball team. The film stresses the corporeal over the spiritual in an attempt to reconcile soul and flesh, science and nature.
