Synopsis

For decades, the director and his parents felt forlorn and miserable every time he visited and so they avoided one another whenever possible. Vaters Garten traces a reencounter years later as Peter Liechti looks back at his past. In the process, a new view of his parents emerges through the narrative of their marriage, which offers an unsentimental yet highly compassionate insight into a bygone age.
