L’Alternativa Official Feature Film Prize

The jury for the Official Feature Film Section at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, made up of Marta Armengou, Jorge Caballero and Pau Subirós, met on 21 November 2014 and agreed unanimously to award the Festival Feature Film Prize to the film Ben O Değilim (I'm Not Him), by Tayfun Pirselimoğlu (Turkey / Greece / France).

The jury praised the filmmaker’s skilful screenplay that subtly incorporates aspects of classic and contemporary filmmaking in a highly original fashion. Its circular structure, flashes of dark humour and the play of mirrors between the characters all combine to make up an intriguing, evocative film.

The jury also awarded a special mention to Brûle la mer (Burn the Sea), by Nathalie Nambot and Maki Berchache (France), in recognition of its ability to make us think about personal and collective freedom from a poetical, social and political perspective.

L’Alternativa Official Short Film Prize

The jury for the Official Short Film Section at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, made up of Pela del Álamo, Ana Aitana Fernández and Fernando Vílchez, met on 21 November 2014 and agreed unanimously to award the Festival Short Film Award to the film The Claustrum, by Jay Rosenblatt (United States).

The jury praised the masterful use of appropriation and resizing in a film that takes spectators on a hypnotic, sensory trip into the crossover between dreams and science.

The jury also awarded a special mention to Ser e voltar (To Be and to Come Back), by Xacio Baño (Spain), for the honest portrayal of its characters, its brave, simple exploration of the private and the definite, and the deft balance it strikes between film and life.

GAC Prize for Best Feature Film Screenplay in Panorama

The jury for the GAC Prize for Best Screenplay at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, made up of Daniel González, Mireia Llinàs and Enric Rufas, met on 21 November 2014 and agreed unanimously to award the GAC Prize for Best Feature Film Screenplay to the film Ciutat Morta (Dead City), by Xavi Artigas and Xapo Ortega (Spain).

The jury praised the film’s in-depth investigation of the case and its powerful, succinct exposure its many facets.

GAC Prize for Best Short Film Screenplay in Panorama

The jury for the GAC Prize for Best Screenplay at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, made up of Daniel González, Mireia Llinàs and Enric Rufas, met on 21 November 2014 and agreed unanimously to award the GAC Prize for Best Short Film Screenplay to the film Escolta (Listen), by Pablo García Pérez de Lara (Spain).

The jury praised the short film for its ability to transport spectators to its own world by juxtaposing text, signs and images.

Panorama Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère–Portbou Prize

The jury for the Panorama Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère–Portbou Prize at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, made up of Sesi Bergeret, Pere Ginard and Tess Renaudo, met on 21 November 2014 and agreed unanimously to award the Panorama Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cerbère–Portbou Prize to the film Salóme, by Yrsa Roca Fannberg (Iceland / Spain / Sweden).

Audience Award

The Audience Award at the 21st edition of the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, l’Alternativa, has been won by the film Ser e voltar (To Be and to Come Back), by Xacio Baño (Spain).
