36 is the number of exposures on an analogue roll of film. It's also the number of shots in this film. Despite this rigid structure, this is a young photographer’s playful quest for the photos that disappeared on her computer. The film hinges on Sai’s missing photo files, but the main character is not a person: memories stored on digital devices and disappearing old buildings are the real protagonists.

Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit (Thailand, 1984) studied Chinese at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. A self-taught short-film director, he also works as a film critic and screenwriter. He is cofounder of Third Class Citizen, a Thai film and video activist group. 36 is his first feature film.
