PRESENTATION MEXICAN FILMMAKING
AT L'ALTERNATIVA 2009
The close ties between Spain and Mexico have played a part in the history of filmmaking in both countries, above and beyond coproductions and economic backing. However there is still room for greater cooperation in the field of making and distributing films.
Despite the country's long filmmaking tradition, up-and-coming talents and international projection, few Mexican films are shown in Spain. As a result, the Barcelona Independent Film Festival, in conjunction with Mexican filmmaking institutions, has decided to set up a Parallel Activity focused on Mexican cinema. This activity will start next year and feature a selection of leading Mexican films with no distribution in Spain.
