Sinopsis: This film examines the difficult situation in Bahia through typical characters in the region, such as the cowboy, the cangaçeiro (the bandit) and the volante (policeman). The aim was to make an allegorical and 'epic-didactic' film, which called for experimental style in three aspects: acting (Brechtian), image (shot with a hand-held camera) and photography (deliberately imperfect). This led the following year to the director's first manifesto: the Aesthetics of Hunger.
