PREMIERE: A LA SOLEDAD by José María Nunes

A la Soledad

The director of Noche de vino tinto, Mañana, Ikonockaut and Amigogima, amongst others, José María Nunes is a distinguished figure from the Barcelona Film School at the most creative moment in Catalan filmmaking, as evidenced by the considerable acclaim and numerous awards he has received from Spanish and French critics.

With A la soledad, Nunes has created another example of poetic filmmaking that interweaves ideas that go to the very heart of human nature. Taking deep, intense thoughts, this intrepid filmmaker has fashioned a daring, emotional film that experiments with cinematic language in all its senses and in all its fields, especially in terms of screenplay, direction and editing.

José María Nunes (Alfaro, Portugal, 1939) moved to his adoptive city of Barcelona in 1947. His experience in the world of filmmaking encompasses almost all fields: he has been a screenwriter, producer, actor and, in particular, director (including theatre plays). His multiple talents don't stop here though; he's also worked as a translator and writer of both articles and poetry. His films include Mañana... (1957; winner of the San Jorge Award from Spanish National Radio in Barcelona), Noche de vino tinto (1966), Biotaxia (1967), Sexperiencias (1968), Iconockaut (1975), Autopista A-2-7 (1977), En secreto, amor (1983) and Gritos... a ritmo fuerte (1983). He has also been the subject of screenings and publications from the Filmoteca de Catalunya, such as Nunes: an Intrepid Filmmaker.
