A typical Mexican house, a typical broken family followed by a curious, yet shy documentary camera. Familia tortuga shows a Mexican middleclass family that has to live on after suffering a tremendous loss. Family ties are shown to be weak when faced with a great absence. This is a family surrounded by an individualised society that forces people to adapt their dreams into an order of isolation, where the home is now a place where the family, amid lost dreams, is in danger of disintegration.
Bio: Rubén Ímaz Castro (Mexico City, 1979) studied at the CCC Film School in Mexico City. In 2004 he was selected to take part in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2. Familia tortuga is his final-year project and first feature film.
