Spanish short films and animation
Duration: 65'
Format: Betacam SP PAL-NTSC | DVD
Independent short film making in Spain has never benefited from a community of creators, foremothers and fathers whose model or example could be used as inspiration or refuge, no movements or manifestos, few subsidies and those that do exist, champion 35mm shoots and an end product suitable for a wide audience, although it still won’t be at a cinema near you.
Instead we find a dispersed (geographically), diverse (thematically) and autonomous (financially) group of individuals, whose films have arrived as parcelled gifts at l’Alternativa. These apparitions from ‘nowhere’ make their existence even more valid, and ensure that they defy easy classification, perhaps even fitting uncomfortably next to each other in a programme dedicated to Spain. But it’s precisely this incompatibility which characterises the work of these filmmakers, they belong to nothing and no one, and speak for themselves.
